Tyra and Spencer

I'm really excited about these pictures because they are of my sister!  These are the film ones, I'll get the digital ones up in a bit.

I have been using Fujifilm Pro 400H film, but on this trip I decided to try the (fairly) new Kodak Portra 400 film, and I'll tell you what, I'm converted.  I have a couple more rolls of the Fujifilm, but from here on out, I'm buying Kodak Portra!  This film is PHENOMENAL!  The details are amazing, but what really blew me away was the color rendition.  Look at them and tell me the colors aren't amazing!

Also, for the B+W, I used Kodak TMAX 100.

Just so that everyone knows, I've been experiencing some difficulties with my email server.  I have not been receiving emails for a couple days now.  If you need to contact me, for now just call me at 385-208-0754 for now.  I'm trying to get the email back up as soon as possible.  Thanks.

UPDATE:  So I changed my mail server and everything is up and running.  My email address continues to be mike@pomazalphoto.com

Nate and Rachael

This wedding was in Salt Lake City.  It was really fun.  One of the things I love most about shooting weddings is being able to meet a wide variety of people.  Everyone there was really fun to talk to.

Not only that, but everybody there was a great dancer.  Especially the bride and groom.  They did swing dancing for their first dance.

Really a great experience.  Everyone was awesome.

SPIKES

Yesterday I had an interesting experience.  I'll show the photo first and explain it after.

So what happened was that I had to take a before and after of the garage for a construction company that I sometimes work with.  Anyway, I had to take pictures before an epoxy coating on the floor was completely dry, so to keep my shoes from permanently adhering to the floor, I had to wear these spike shoes.  On commercial shoots I usually walk around a lot, but I guess I didn't realize how much I walked around until this.  Anyway, I was a fun and different experience.  Sorry I couldn't take more photos of the shoes.  I only had a couple of seconds to take this one.

Self Portrait

Every once in a while, it becomes time to do another self-portrait.  I've been trying to think of a new one to do. Then the other day after I worked out, I thought it would be fun to do one like that.  I had never done one of me like that.

I went for more of the grungy look, but I really didn't want to make it look too far from reality.  So I gave it a little bit of punch without making the colors unrealistic.  I think it turned out well.

Why hire a commercial photographer...

Something that happens really often is that a wedding photographer or someone with a camera will claim they do architectural shoots.  When they do it though, they don't really know what they are doing, so they just shoot it like they would anything else.  It probably ends up looking something like this:

When they realize that nearly anybody could do this, they have to charge really cheaply in order to get any money at all because, let's face it, this isn't great quality.  Then when someone hears my pricing, they always tell me, "Oh, I have a guy that will do it for $50!"  That's because they're not doing enough to earn even that.

When I go on a job like this, I know what to do to give a real professional look because, well, that is what I do.  This is what I do:

Much more visually appealing, better vertical lines (for those architects out there), more detail shown.
